Fosdalen cuts into Denmark's longest inland cliff, Lien. Fosdalen is a spring-fed valley with stunning views and is part of Denmark's Natural Canon. From the viewpoint at the far edge you have a wonderful view of the North Sea.
Fosdalen is one of Han Herred's best-known places to visit and one of the most popular nature areas in North Jutland.
Fosdalen is a north-south valley. At the bottom of the lush rainwater canyon or erosion gorge runs a small stream, Vor Frue Kilde, which starts at the top of the valley, close to the rock. The stone with the inscription "Vor Frue Kilde" was erected in 1936. The water comes from springs in the valley sides and from springs at the upper end of the valley. The Fosdal stream flows with varying strength throughout the year. The spring/brook helps to make the Fosdalen a peaceful and quiet place.
Fosdalen opens out into the country's largest inland coastal cliff, called Lien.
Fosdalen was sold from Lerup vicarage in 1901 and, together with other areas, became part of the state plantation.Today it is difficult to imagine that the valley was open with grass, heather, scattered thickets and a clear view when it was protected 100 years ago. Barely 100 metres from the end of the Fosdalen, a flight of steps with a good 100 steps leads up to a fantastic view of the Underlien/the marine foreland (the Tankestedet itself). That's the name of the flat land you're looking out over. From here it is only about 500 metres to the Fosdalen Nature Centre's exhibition on the area.
