Sjørring Volde is one of Denmark's most impressive and well-preserved castle complexes, a so-called motte complex, consisting of a square central bank, the motte, surrounded by tombs and ramparts. The bank rises 7.5 m above the bottom of the moat, which is now completely level. The outer sides of the ditch are up to 9 m high.

An excavation in 1945-46 found that the sides of the grave were formed by piled up turf. At the same time, the remains of a wooden bridge were found, which had led over the western grave to the central bank.

For many years, the site has been the setting for major gymnastics conferences and public festivals.
